Hey? What's the Big Idea?

I have ideas. I have a lot of ideas. Many of them do not work out because of something called physics. For other ideas this thing called genetics gets in the way....oh and money.  The last filter for my amazing ideas is money. But for those ideas that make it through those very tough barriers they have a fighting chance at becoming something real. I will typically do anything for my ideas. I have flown across the country, re-learned biology, and bought a ridiculous amount of stuff for these ideas. In my school model (which is bound to be different from yours) I have a student in pre-k and I have a junior in my 39 student class. They have a computer with virtual lessons for about 60% of their school-year content and then I come in and fill the gaps the virtual curriculum doesn't cover. This means on any given day I can literally be teaching a student the sounds the "au" makes and the many words you can now recognize with that letter combination. OR/AND I can be teachi...

#EdCamp OKC

...one person's reflection on the top trending events of the weekend from a post EdCamp depresh point of view... I love the the EdCamp movement. Everyone is talking about it. Whether they were at EdCampOKC or EdCampLiberty or EdCampRowan or EdCampSWCT it blew up The Twitter this weekend. While at EdCampOKC i started getting the feeling. For those of you that were there or at another EdCamp across the nation, or if you have ever been to an EdCamp before, you probably know the feeling. As you are sharing an idea that you are using and watching people take notes Or YOU are taking notes because someone is sharing exactly what you needed to hear...that feeling in your gut and heart at the same time. That feeling of:  "Freaking. YES!!!" There are others like me. Finally someone gets what I have been trying to do in my classroom - building - district. Finally I found a group of people that I can truly have a conversation with.  These people will not easily dismiss my ideas ...

am i wasting time and money?

I purposefully didn't capitalize that, you Grammar Nazis. This is a general rambling and hardly warrants all the nuances of your typical blog write-up. I started Grad School in January. I did this because I feel like if I am ever going to continue to grow professionally, then I could use some official credentials to back up my experience. I graduated from college later in life than most. I wasn't sure if I would ever find a job in a public school that would suit my pretty conservative but progressive ideals. Sidebar: I am politically conservative in a moderate way, but very progressive when it comes to the methods we use to mold our young minds. Out-of-the-box and flipped-upside-down are the methods I like to use. Confused? Utterly! Ok, back to it. In the program I am making a valiant effort to "get it" but I simply do not. My goal has never been to be a typical principal of a typical school. When I graduated the ed program, it looked like I had invested in be...

Educating Who? Educating Me.

Ultimately, on this planet, I am a new guy. I have a lot to learn, but I am one impatient cuss. I need to know why and what for on everything. I have some strong opinions and sometimes show how very green I am when I vomit my opinion. I can be quite wrong at times; I swing for the fences but often miss the ball completely in the effort. Yes, I am an educator AND I can be wrong. I am starting this blog because I created a class project and have several students who I have asked to start a blog. I am really trying to model the behavior I am looking for. I had a blog some time ago about becoming a marathon runner, but that experience has run its course. Hahahaha. I don't even remember my username or password to get into that relic, so I am starting a new blog that pertains to the contemporary me. As you can tell, I also laugh at my own jokes. So these are my thoughts. Here I open myself up to be wrong and I truly encourage comments and an open dialogue so I might become more infor...
